Job Summary
The Head of Clinical Operations will play a pivotal role in leading and shaping the Trust's Private Patient Services, reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Operations. The postholder will provide robust strategic and operational leadership across all areas of private patient provision, ensuring services are safe, legislatively compliant, financially sustainable, and aligned with organisational priorities.
The Head of Clinical Operations will lead the strategic and operational management of the Trust's Private Patient Unit (PPU), ensuring safe, compliant, and financially sustainable private healthcare services. The role involves delivering excellent patient and consultant experiences, driving service development, and supporting strategic objectives. The post holder will also deputise for the Director when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Directorate's business strategy and deliver robust leadership and management of all aspects of private patient provision.
* Provide support and deputise for the Director of Clinical Operations for all areas within this directorate, including Pharmacy Services.
* Ensure services are legislatively compliant and provide safe, effective, and efficient care meeting patient and stakeholder needs.
* Realise return on investment of public funds through:
o Routinely capturing all Private Patient income.
o Improving the Private Patient offering and experience for patients and consultants.
o Enabling services to generate additional revenue for reinvestment in the Trust.
* Develop and implement SOPs, policies, and business development opportunities in conjunction with the Company and Trust leadership teams.
* Marketing strategy to enhance visibility and reputation of Private Patient Services, including:
o Designing and implementing targeted campaigns.
o Engaging key stakeholders to build a strong referral network.
o Leveraging digital and traditional communication channels.
o Working with Communications team to align messaging and branding.
o Monitoring and analysing marketing efforts for continuous improvement.
* Support transformational and service developments within the directorate in partnership with the Director of Clinical Operations.
* Leadership and Strategy:
o Provide operational leadership for the PPU, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance.
o Develop and implement strategies to improve patient and consultant experiences.
o Deputise for the Director and support operational transformation initiatives.
* Service Improvement:
o Lead service development and transformation projects.
o Ensure governance systems meet regulatory standards such as CQC and PHIN.
o Maintain high standards across private care pathways, referrals, and customer service.
* Financial Management:
o Oversee the PPU budget with effective income capture and minimal bad debt.
o Analyse market trends to optimise pricing strategies and create business opportunities.
o Ensure private patient services deliver return on public investment.
* Commercial Responsibilities:
o Manage relationships and negotiate contracts with insurers, consultants, and stakeholders.
o Develop marketing strategies to enhance PPU's profile and attract new business.
o Monitor risks and implement mitigation measures.
* Governance and Compliance:
o Ensure compliance with clinical, legal, and governance requirements.
o Develop policies and processes to maintain NHS standards while integrating private services.
o Oversee incident management, complaints resolution, and quality improvement initiatives.
* Team Leadership and Development:
o Foster an inclusive and collaborative culture within the PPU team.
o Lead staff appraisals, training, and professional development.
o Build relationships with Trust leadership, staff, and external partners.
* Performance and Partnerships:
o Monitor service performance and deliver strategic improvements.
o Collaborate with clinical and operational leads for growth opportunities.
o Develop and present business cases for innovation.
