We have two exciting opportunities within our Oxbury Earth team: 1 Junior Software Engineer and 1 Senior Software Engineer.
About the role
As part of the core banking platform team, you will design and build testable, efficient, secure, resilient software for the business. The platform is based on an internally developed framework, based on PHP and Typescript and serves all the various products managed by the Bank. The team owns the full product lifecycle from development to deployment.
Role Responsibilities
* Review and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the software development process.
* Create technical designs based on requirements from the Business.
* Write all code software solutions to meet the documented needs of the project.
* Improve existing software by reviewing existing implementation and presenting ideas to extend existing code.
* Using Object Oriented Programming where applicable.
* Utilise design patterns where applicable.
* Write code that follows general good practise and adheres to in-house development standards.
* Adopt SOLID engineering principles.
* Use a Test-Driven Development approach and write automated tests for the majority of code you write.
* Regularly demo your achievements to the rest of the team and the wider Business.
* Document any code you write.
* Support other members of the team.
* Be cognizant of Secure Development practises and consider security with every design choice you make.
* Develop engaging user interfaces for our banking customers by understanding the needs of the end users.
* Develop secure, robust and easy to implement API endpoints for the UI and third parties to easily integrate with our system.
* Manage and prioritise work based on the sprint boards in Jira.
* Produce estimates for each segment of work for the Business Analysts.
* Contribute to Agile team meetings.
* Coordinate new features with QAs.
* Code review team members code, and allow your own code to be reviewed.
* Support the live production as needed when problems cannot be solved by front line support.
* Adopt a process of continuous improvement to yourself, ensuring you remain aware of new technologies and standards. Be prepared to present the pros and cons of these to the team.
Required skills and experience
* A solid track record of object-oriented programming principles and a good understanding of design patterns.
* Experience working on complex systems, debugging distributed systems and dealing with large or complex volumes.
* Experience using Version Control System best practices. We use Git, but equivalents are acceptable.
* A good understanding of Linux Shell (Bash is great).
* A good understanding of data storage technologies – you should be proficient with SQL as a minimum; NoSQL and caching are a bonus. Writing and debugging SQL queries and optimising as needed.
* Commitment to testing and understand that it’s the bedrock on which Products are built.
* Experience of delivering and maintaining public APIs.
* Experience of working in the Financial Services sector.
* Worked with PHP in a professional environment but not essential; experience in other programming languages and willingness to learn PHP.
* Worked with Typescript in either a frontend or backend context.
* Built web interface (HTML).
