Hays Recruitment have partnered with Leicestershire County Council in the search for a Senior Technical Specialist with strong knowledge of firewalls, ideally with Cisco knowledge.
As the SME in the team, you will lead on the operational management and administration of the corporate firewall infrastructure. Working alongside other specialists, you will bring extensive firewall skills and expertise to help support this critical infrastructure.Mentoring and guiding technical specialists and other technical staff is key as part of the knowledge sharing ethos within the team.
You will also be expected to co-ordinate small teams of technicians to deliver new services and service improvements.
Your new role will involve
1. To own, support, install and administer corporate firewall and perimeter security solutions
2. Liaise with customers and appropriate IT staff
3. Advise on technical and security standards to ensurepliance, security of systems and services to maintain high service availability.
4. The role will involve a varyingbination of line management duties and in-depth technical knowledge and understanding across a range of IT infrastructure services.
5. To co-ordinate small teams of technicians across I&T to deliver new services and service improvements.
6. Work in a technical operations team that is responsible for the following technologies:
7. Hyper-Converged Systems (HCI)
8. Infrastructure Security
9. SQL Database Administration
10. System Backup Management & Administration
11. Server administration (Windows, Solaris, Linux, VMWare)
12. File Structure and Permission Management
13. Facilities Management
14. Security Testing
15. Disaster Recovery
What you need to succeed
16. In depth experience of firewalls, ideally Cisco / Checkpoint
17. Demonstrable experience in perimeter security
18. Demonstrable experience with the principles and concepts of firewalls
19. Experience upgrading, managing and monitoring firewalls
20. Strong understanding of storage infrastructure
21. Strong understanding of virtual infrastructure
22. MS knowledge
23. Strong desire to future proof perimeter security against future threats
24. Ability to mentor and knowledge share
There will be occasional out of hours requirements for planned works or major incidents, therefore you will need to be within an hour of the location and have your own transport.Sponsorship is not available for this role
