We are looking to recruit an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic Band 6 Sexual Health Advisor to join our busy, dynamic team at our iCaSH clinic in Milton Keynes.

We will also consider offering a Band 5 progressive post to the right candidate and encourage applications from those with a passion for sexual health.

Support and training will be provided to achieve a Band 6 role. The band 5 Job Description is attached to the vacancy along with the Band 6 Job Description (Band 5 salary range is £31,049 - £37,796)

Monday to Friday, with one weekday 12-8pm and one Saturday in four working 9am-1pm, with time off in the week.

Main duties of the job

To manage patients requiring Sexual Health Advisor contact within the service. To provide support, information, education, treatment and health promotion advice to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis B & C.

To manage and oversee the results of tests undertaken within the service and carry out robust partner notification, to ensure the attendance and treatment of contacts.

To provide a safe environment whereby patients, carers and families can access care, discuss their concerns and ask questions. Provide information, advice, treatment, health promotion and education for patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, providing support and onward referral as required.

To provide time limited 1:1 work for patients specifically around risk reduction and behaviour change, using evidenced based tools such as motivational interviewing and behavioural change models.

Job responsibilities

* Assess all factors which might negatively affect a patients sexual health and refer/signpost to appropriate specialist services (e.g. psychology/psychiatry, alcohol and drug services).
* Provide ongoing support, advice and signposting/onward referral for people with associated concerns (e.g. sexual assault, termination of pregnancy, sexual identity, relationship and psychosexual issues).
* Ensure at all times that the patient’s identity and confidential nature of information obtained is in accordance with current legislation and NHS, BASHH, BHIVA, FSRH and Trust guidelines and policies.
* Facilitate the recall of patients with untreated infections or those in need of follow-up and/or test of cure. Exchange relevant information about patients and contacts with other sexual health clinics as necessary.
* Be competent in the management of under 18 year olds and vulnerable adults working within Fraser Guidelines and Gillick Competencies.
* Liaise with multi-disciplinary teams including local safeguarding teams/services where there are concerns regarding Mental Capacity.
* Practice as a prescriber if the post-holder has a non-medical prescribing qualification.
* Following training and being deemed competent, perform phlebotomy and Point of Care HIV Testing as required.
* Lead and participate in sexual health promotion work within the service.
* Work alongside the HIV specialist team, providing patient support.
* Work within the Society of Sexual Health Advisors (SSHA) guidance.
* Develop or contribute to the writing, review and updating of Trust and Service policies, guidance, standard operating procedures and other such documents.
* Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with the Trust's policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Provide pre-HIV test discussion for high-risk patients as appropriate and where required.
* Take appropriate patient history, refer/signpost to relevant individuals within the multi-disciplinary team, and understand relevant staff roles both within and external to the service.

* Patients and their families/carers, if appropriate.
* Head of iCaSH Services, iCaSH Service Manager, Service Support Lead, Clinical Nurse Manager, Administration Lead and Team, iCaSH Locality Team, iCaSH Clinical Team, iCaSH Medical Team Lead, Pharmacist, iCaSH Other Cambridgeshire Community Services employees, iCaSH/CCS Subcontracted Services, External/Third party organisations, General public.


Budgetary Responsibility

* Authorised signatory where required.
* Contribute to the financial delivery and sustainability of the department objectives.
* Support with stock control and ordering as required.


People Management

Responsible for day-to-day supervision of staff within the clinic as required. Responsible for day-to-day management of a group of staff within the clinic as required. Responsibility as line manager for, and development of identified members of staff as required.

Maintaining own professional development, revalidation, participation and completion of annual appraisal process, mandatory training and regular 1-1 meetings with line manager.

Participate in clinical audit, service development and appropriate research projects where required.


Clinical and Practice Governance

* Observe and maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
* Any data received within the HA role must be utilised/processed in line with the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies.
* The post holder must adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
* The post holder must adhere to the Trust Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures.
* If it is a condition of your employment that you are currently registered with a professional body, it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration.
* Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
* The post holder must participate in clinical and safeguarding audits as required.
* Provide patients and their families/carers with information on standards they should expect from the service.
* Participate in clinical and management supervision on a regular basis.
* The post holder is required to participate in relevant emergency preparedness process with their service.


Person Specification


Qualifications & Training

* Registered Nurse or Midwife (NMC)
* Independent Non-medical Prescribing Qualification


Experience

* Experience of working in sexual health (Contraception, GUM, HIV or equivalent)
* Able to demonstrate competency in supply of treatments by Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or willingness to undertake.
* Experience in health care, ideally sexual health or health coaching.
* Suitable for newly qualified registered nurse (adult level 1)
* Experienced in caring for people living in difficult and chaotic social situations.


Knowledge & Skills

* Specialist clinical knowledge in sexual health and/or related specialties.
* Sensitivity and confidence when handling sensitive and complicated diagnosis, social and care issues.
* Competent in phlebotomy (or a willingness to undertake training).
* Confidence in self to work with multi-disciplinary, multi-agency groups.

Compensation

£38,682 to £46,580 a year, pro rata
