NHS Dumfries & Galloway is seeking a motivated and forward thinking Health Protection Nurse to join our dynamic Public Health Team. This is an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high quality health protection services across a diverse and rural region, working to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our population.
About the Role
As a Health Protection Nurse, you will play a vital part in the prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of communicable diseases and environmental public health incidents. You will work closely with colleagues across Public Health, Primary Care, Environmental Health, Health & Social Care, and wider partners to support coordinated, timely, and effective responses.
You will contribute to:
1. Managing notifications of infectious diseases and public health incidents
2. Providing specialist advice to professionals, organisations, and the public
3. Supporting outbreak management and risk assessments
4. Delivering education, training, and learning to colleagues and partners
5. Participating in rota cover for day to day health protection enquiries
6. Supporting governance through risk management, adverse event review, and quality improvement activities
What Were Looking For
We welcome applications from nurses with:
7. A current NMC registration
8. Experience in Public Health, Community Nursing, Infection Prevention & Control, Acute Nursing, or a related field
9. Strong clinical judgement, communication, and decision making skills
10. The ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a fast paced environment
11. A passion for improving population health and reducing health inequalities
12. Experience in health protection is desirable, but support, supervision, and training will be provided for candidates keen to develop within this specialist area.
