The Opportunity:
The School of Engineering's wet laboratories hold an inventory of collectively over 5,000 chemicals, which periodically must be catalogued and rationalised. The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a motivated and self-driven intern to compile the School's chemical inventory for 2025 and coordinate disposal of chemicals that are no longer required.
This internship offers the chance for the successful candidate to gain valuable experience supporting the safe and sustainable management of laboratories, working in labs conducting cutting-edge academic research. They will also gain understanding of the role Health & Safety culture plays in research laboratories, in particular the importance of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
on Campus is run by the Careers Service in collaboration with University departments and Schools. It offers exclusive summer internships at the University over the summer for 2nd year to penultimate year undergraduate students from the University of Edinburgh based in the UK. This post is full-time (35 hours per week), based entirely on-campus.
This role is UE03 and is available on a fixed-term basis for 10 weeks.
Your skills and attributes for success:
* Familiarity with working in a laboratory environment.
* Interest in laboratory management.
* Willingness and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
* Methodical.
Good IT skills, in particular MS Excel.
