Lead Mechanical Engineer – Nuclear Sector Location: United Kingdom | Hybrid | Permanent
A well-established international engineering and services organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to spearhead high-impact projects within the nuclear sector. This role offers the opportunity to influence the future of energy and infrastructure through technical leadership and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of the mechanical engineering scope across complex nuclear-focused projects, from feasibility to commissioning
* Provide strategic technical leadership to internal teams and external partners
* Ensure rigorous adherence to nuclear industry standards, including safety, regulatory compliance, and quality control
* Guide the preparation and review of technical documentation, specifications, and design deliverables
* Collaborate with clients, design teams, and subcontractors to drive project delivery and engineering excellence
* Promote continuous improvement and best practice within design and execution phases.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred)
* Chartered Engineer status or on the pathway towards chartership
* Extensive experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sectors (e.g. defence, petrochemical, energy)
* Demonstrable background in leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects
* Strong knowledge of UK nuclear legislation, safety case development, and engineering design codes
* Exceptional communication and leadership skills
