A welcoming secondary school is seeking a dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant in Sunderland to join their team and support students with additional needs in both academic and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with ASD, helping them access the curriculum and stay engaged in learning.
* Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons and classroom strategies to meet individual needs.
* Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through calm, consistent support.
* Foster independence, communication, and confidence in students with varying abilities.
* Collaborate with SENCOs, therapists, and parents to monitor and support student progress.
* Contribute to a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
What We’re Looking For:
* Experience working with children or young people with Autism (in education, care, or similar).
* Strong communication, patience, and behaviour management skills.
* A calm and supportive approach, with a genuine interest in SEN education.
* An understanding of ASD and strategies for supporting sensory, emotional, and social needs.
* A relevant qualification in education or support is desirable.
* A valid, enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
