Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Funeral Arranger and Operative to join our team. The ideal candidate will have proven experience of working within the funeral trade.
Hours: We are flexible on agreeing your set hours and set days. The job is for 22.5 hrs a week, with the possibility of extending this to a full time position. Please discuss at interview. Our usual opening times are 8:30pm to 4:30pm.
hour for lunch (unpaid). Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)
On Call 24 hrs a day outside of office hours for 1 week, (7 days) every 4 weeks.
Holidays: 36 days per year pro rata, (including 8 English bank holidays)
Salary: £14.00 per hour, plus on Call stand by payment gives Pro rata earnings of £29,592 p.a., plus on call earnings, say £1300 per year. Anticipated total pro rata earnings. £30,860 p.a.
Uniform will be supplied.
Requirements:
Full clean UK driving license. You must be presentable with no visual tattoos. Able to carry a coffin on your shoulders, walking in a procession, as part of a team of bearers. Must have own transport to get to work and live within 20 minutes of HU4 6QF.
Responsibilities include
Arranging funerals and pre payment plans. Preparation of the deceased for a burial or cremation. This includes placing them in a coffin and preparing them for viewings in the chapel of rest. Maintenance, cleaning and driving vehicles. Transferring cremated remains into the appropriate casket or urn. This role requires a blend of empathy, organizational skills, and the ability to manage sensitive situations.
Duties include
Meet with families of the deceased to discuss funeral arrangements and requests.
Explains pricing and product information for coffins, flowers and our other services to family and/or friends.
Advise families on all aspects of the Funeral, arrange the flowers, press notices, and any other matters arising.
To arrange Funerals, organise and coordinate dates and times with the families for the service, with the Crematoria, Cemeteries, the minister/officiant, the Coroners, Doctors Surgeries and any other individuals or organisations, under the supervision of our Funeral Directors.
Coordinate collections of deceased from Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Private Residences.
Ensures the New Funeral Instruction paper work is completed and passed to our administration team.
Accepts payments for funeral services.
Ensures that set-up for the memorial service, wake, and funeral adheres to families wishes.
Addresses and resolves any customer issues or complaints under the supervision of our Funeral Directors.
Maintains positive relationships with church officials, doctors surgery staff, cemetery staff and crematorium staff.
Support and assist the Funeral Directors to ensure each funeral ceremony meets the specific requests and requirements of the person who has died, together with their family.
Assist and undertake the preparation and presentation of the body entrusted to our care in a professional, caring and dignified manner.
Prepare bodies for viewing.
Prepare coffins, fit out and line including engraving of name plates.
Prepare cremated remains caskets.
Prepare funeral cars including daily clean and valet with regular polishing.
Carry out vehicle checks including fuel, fluids and tyres.
Ensure all vehicles are checked both pre and post use, ensuring they are fit for purpose and of the highest quality.
Act as driver for all vehicles in accordance with the Highway Code and company procedures, reporting any damage of faults in a timely manner.
Act as bearer for funerals as directed, ensuring correct attire is worn and is carried out professionally and with dignity.
At all times be ready to deal with removals from hospital or home (includes day and on call nights/weekends).
Clean mortuary and other areas and maintain workshops in a clean and tidy manner.
Ensure each funeral ceremony meets the specific requests and requirements of the person who has died, together with their family.
Is available to work on the out of office hours rota as directed.
Ensure that company procedures and policies are adhered to at all times.
Follow the National Association of Funeral Directors Code of Practice at all times.
Any other duties as required by the Management.
Skills
Able to complete paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail.
Physical capability for heavy lifting as required during service preparations.
