Be extraordinary at AWE. About the apprenticeship: The apprenticeship will involve joining the internal audit team at AWE for a period of 6 - 12 months. The internal audit role involves delivering internal audits/ third line assurance to the AWE CEO and Audit Committee. Internal audits will be conducted following an audit methodology and using an audit management system which has been developed by the Government Internal Audit Agency to align with Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS). The team are based on the Aldermaston site and is a mix of office based /site and home working. The Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors supports a number of apprenticeship levels. Opportunities when you complete your apprenticeship: A placement in internal audit should prepare the individual with a good understanding of Governance, Internal Control and Risk Management. It also provides good coverage across the whole organisation and an understanding of its Strategic Risks applicable to many future roles within AWE. Apprenticeship Standard: Internal Audit technician (ST1484) Training Provider: The training provider for this role is still to be confirmed About you: You will be naturally curious With an inquisitive mind Able to engage with people Wanting to understand what should be happening Able to logically think through and source evidence as to what is happening Able to analyse and report in an objective way why, why things are happening as they are. Location: Aldermaston/Reading area Start Date: Tuesday 1st September 2026 Annual leave will not be granted from 1st September until 2nd October 2026 due to mandatory inductions you are required to complete as part of your apprenticeship. Any leave approved after this point will depend on the training provider requirements for your apprenticeship and must be agreed in advance.
