I am looking for a committed, straight‑talking, confident, flexible Personal Assistant with a sense of humour to assist me with activities that relieve my social isolation and restore a level of independence. I have limited mobility but am still very independent, with support I wish to stay living independently. I appreciate that I need the right Personal Assistant. I need someone who is proactive, will not patronise me or treat me like a lesser person because of my wheelchair, and be willing to undertake the parts of an activity I cannot manage myself. Tasks will include helping me to prepare meals from scratch using real ingredients, trips into the community to go to events or just out for chips by the sea, as well as some assistance with personal care and light domestic duties at home. Use of a car with room for a manual wheelchair is essential. The hours are to be worked flexibly as required and agreed in advance. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended to enable me to manage my support independently.
Responsibilities
* Support the client to complete tasks at home, straightening bed, assistance with laundry, cooking etc.
* Assist with access to shower (remove wheelchair from area, stay close in case of falls, wash lower legs and apply cream if necessary).
* Support and encourage him with activities of interest e.g., trips out and stimulating conversation etc.
* Prepare meals, snacks and drinks when on shift.
* Support to access the community for trips to places of interest by car.
* Support with arranging and attending appointments.
* Any other reasonable duties requested from time to time.

* A full driving licence and use of a car is required.
* You must have business use on your insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
This appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check, which will incur no cost to the applicant. If you have an online update DBS you have a great chance of becoming shortlisted for this position as this can help the employer to recruit much quicker. If requested by the employer, two satisfactory references must be provided. This post is subject to a trial period of 1 month and a probationary period of up to 6 months. Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4‑weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement. You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences. You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
You will be an employee of the Direct Payment Recipient and not of Ceredigion County Council. Applications from self‑employed persons will not be considered.
