Hybrid working: Minimum 1 day per week on site, 4.5 day working week

The team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to participate in the full development life cycle of the control and monitoring software for the AM 3D printer. Our mission is to support the continuous evolution and innovation of the AM Machine, by delivering high value software solutions, against high performance and reliability constraints.
As a Senior Software Engineer at Renishaw, you’ll contribute to current and future generations of AM Software, while following Agile Software Engineering practices, tooled-up by automated DevOps. You’ll get involved in the development of software as part of the wider system, with opportunities to gain domain specific knowledge, collaborate in cross-discipline engineering, support R&D projects, mentor junior teammates, and develop your career in Software with a background of the growing body of knowledge that is AM.
As a business, we are continuously involved with R&D for new products so, from time to time, there will be a need to attend site to carry out certain tasks and we’re likely to ask you to attend more often during key phases of projects.
About the role
1. Specification, design, development, continuous integration/continuous delivery and maintenance of software components
2. Collaborate effectively within an Agile team, meeting quality standards, deadlines, and project requirements while maximizing value and efficiency
3. Mentor and support junior team members, fostering their growth and development
4. Drive continuous improvement and innovation in AM software projects, contributing fresh ideas and solutions
Key requirements
5. Degree in Computer Science/Software engineering/other relevant STEM degree
6. Experience in a similar Senior Software Engineering role, working on a challenging and innovative engineering product
7. Experience of developing performance-critical components:
in C++ and other relevant languages
multi-threading, cross-platform, inter-process communications
8. An understanding of Object-Oriented programming and SOLID design principles
9. Experience with Agile development, DevOps practices and Test-Driven Development
10. Knowledge of distributed version control systems, such as Git
11. Knowledge of distributed software architectures, network communications and security protocols
12. Experience with UML/SysML software design languages
Knowledge of the following would be advantageous, but not essential
13. OS configuration, deployment, and network booting (WinPE, PXE boot, Win OOBE, DSC)
14. Cyber-security at architecture-level
15. C# .NET, PowerShell, Python, Matlab
16. M2m protocols (OPC UA, MQTT)
17. Modern client-server technologies/frameworks (gRPC)
18. Continuous Integration pipelines based on YAML
19. MS Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, Jira and Confluence, Enterprise Architect
20. MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering)
21. Electronics/electrical engineering, communication protocols, industrial automation, and control
