Head of Sixth Form and Welsh Baccalaureate Coordinator

Please note that the advertised salary for this position is subject to a pending pay award. The final salary will be adjusted in line with the nationally agreed pay award.

Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed, and dynamic individual to lead our Sixth Form and coordinate the Welsh Baccalaureate across Years 12 and 13. This is a key pastoral and academic leadership role within our vibrant and high-performing school, offering an exciting opportunity to shape the post-16 experience and support our learners in achieving their full potential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

1. Proven experience in post-16 teaching and/or leadership.
2. A strong understanding of the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification.
3. Excellent pastoral care skills and the ability to inspire, motivate, and support young people.
4. A strategic approach to tracking progress, monitoring performance, and raising achievement.
5. The ability to lead and collaborate with a dedicated team of tutors and subject staff.

You will play a crucial role in the lives of our students by supporting academic progress, promoting well-being, and preparing learners for the next stage of their education or career. This post is ideal for an aspiring or experienced leader who shares our values and is committed to providing high-quality, bilingual education.

Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron is a bilingual school, and the ability to communicate in Welsh is essential for this position. The school has just under 600 students, including a successful Sixth Form. During the recent Estyn visit in 2023, it was noted that “the pupils are thoughtful and considerate young people who treat each other with care and respect, and treat staff and visitors with respect. They promote the school’s values of empathy, ambition, creativity, resilience, and pride through their good behaviour and positive attitudes towards learning.” “The contribution of Sixth Form students is central to many of the school’s cultural and social activities.”

Note: We reserve the right to extend the application closing date.

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting children and adults at risk. As part of this commitment, certain roles within our organisation require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to assess the suitability of candidates. This role will require an Enhanced DBS check. Please note that the presence of previous convictions will not necessarily disqualify a candidate from consideration for this position. We assess each applicant on a case-by-case basis, and take into account the nature and relevance of any convictions in relation to the responsibilities of the role. Our goal is to create an inclusive and supportive work environment where all individuals are treated fairly and with respect. If you have any concerns or questions regarding this process, please feel free to contact us for clarification. Your privacy and dignity are of utmost importance to us throughout the recruitment process.
