Assistant Quantity Surveyor
As part of the Design Team within Economic Development and Regeneration the Assistant Quantity Surveyor role contributes to an effective service that supports the delivery of work stemming from Northumberland County Council Corporate and Directorate Strategic Plans. The successful candidate will be part of a sixteen‑strong team with a diverse skill set working on a wide range of construction, design, and feasibility projects and capital delivery programmes. This role also includes advisory work linked to the Directorate’s responsibilities toward Northumberland County Council’s Corporate Landlord and Estate Management duties. No working week is the same in this team, and our projects contribute to improving community, school, leisure, office and other NCC‑owned buildings and services. The role will be to provide quantity surveying, estimating, construction contract and payment services, with a commitment to ensuring contracts are administered correctly and to help bring projects to fruition and within budget. Cohort work will be conducted with appointed project team members and external consultants, using relevant reporting and financial software, funding management and procurement processes.
This post will be based at County Hall, Morpeth, with the option of agreed days for home working; however, the role will largely involve travel throughout the County of Northumberland.

Requirements of the Job
* Degree level qualification in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent professional experience. A Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment/Building, or equivalent professional studies combined with relevant experience.
* Experience compiling tenders and unit rates, including exposure to competitive pricing environments.
* Detailed working knowledge of construction contracts and methods of measurement.
* Good knowledge of construction methods, building activities and how buildings are constructed.
* Intermediate MS Office skills (to prepare regular reports including uploading photos).
* Ability to read and interpret construction plans and details.
* Full UK driving licence and the ability to travel across Northumberland and work on‑site in varying conditions.
