Consultant in Gastroenterology (Clinical Nutrition/Intestinal Failure)
Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant in the Gastroenterology department.
We are a teaching hospital in North East Anglia with a large intestinal failure service, operating as a Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) centre and offering inpatient Type 1 and Type 3 intestinal failure care. A third consultant will support the existing intestinal failure team and expand the clinical nutrition and intestinal failure service.
The post holder will also contribute to outpatient and endoscopy services and participate in gastroenterology inpatient care on a rotational basis.
Main Duties of the Job
• Proficient in emergency endoscopy and management of varices.
• Provide out‑of‑hours “on‑call” cover for emergency gastroenterology and hepatology referrals and emergency endoscopy, forming part of a 24/7 upper GI bleeding rota (currently 1:16).
• Active delivery of the clinical gastroenterology service, including ward work, outpatient clinics, endoscopy sessions and emergency out‑of‑hours cover.
• Review patients admitted to the Acute Medical Unit who are triaged to gastroenterology; join one of the IBD/luminal teams.
• Attend clinics seeing approximately 4 new and 8 follow‑up patients per session.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration and licence to practice (MRCP)
* CCT in General Medicine & Gastroenterology or equivalent, confirmed by PMETB/GMC
* Entry on GMC specialist register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of AAC
* Accredited in ERCP and EUS
* Higher degree (PhD/MD) relevant to IBD/luminal gastroenterology
* Capability to work within a multidisciplinary team, particularly the endoscopy unit and nutrition team
* Enthusiasm for service development and teaching
* Prepared to work in shared office space
Experience & Interests
* International equivalence to five years of NHS specialty training (for EU/overseas nationals)
* Research or published papers in area of special interest
* Interest in gastroenterology, inpatient and outpatient care, and endoscopy
* Sub‑speciality interest in Luminal Gastroenterology/IBD
Circumstances
* Flexible outlook on working hours
* Must live within a 15‑mile radius of the base Trust or 30‑minute travel time
* Full driving licence

£113,565 to £150,569 a year pro rata
