Train Movement Controller, Reading Train Care Depot

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
* Control and coordinate all train movements within the New Depot and interface with Network Rail Maintained Infrastructure (NRMI).
* Ensure the safety of staff working on trains and infrastructure outside depot protection systems in maintenance areas.
* Serve as the main contact point for external authorities, suppliers, internal teams, and third-party customers.
* Support the Depot Operations Manager (DOM), fleet control, and team leader in managing the GWR fleet.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Assist in planning, controlling, and reporting train movements on and off the depot, including operation of the train movement control system, carriage washing plant, and signalling equipment.
* Control train crew operations within the depot, including adherence to company policies on drugs and alcohol.
* Create and maintain safe working conditions.
* Respond to directions from the Shift Production Manager regarding service delivery.
* Coordinate with the team to manage arrivals, departures, and driver utilization.
* Implement emergency procedures, investigate incidents, and report operational issues, including near misses.
* Manage contractor activities related to train operations, including security and transportation, and liaise with external authorities and emergency services.
* Plan and oversee infrastructure repairs, including signalling, telecommunications, overhead lines, and power systems.
* Maintain communication with third-party customers for rolling stock dispatch and event management.
* Call out track maintainers for track defects as needed.
KEY SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Report to the Depot Operations Manager, ensuring the safe movement of trains and safe working areas outside depot buildings.
* Adhere to Great Western Safety Standards at all times.
* Prioritize personal and team safety, reporting hazards and unsafe practices.
* Participate in emergency procedures, evacuations, and safety exercises.
* Communicate safety messages effectively and maintain a safe, tidy workplace.
* Comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including PPE use, hazard reporting, and risk management.
