Field Service Engineer
Location: Stamford – easily commutable from Peterborough, Corby, Kettering, Oakham, Grantham, Bourne, Market Deeping, Leicester.
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience
Hours: Full-time, permanent
Our client, an established engineering manufacturer of high-performance electrical and mechanical test equipment, is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to provide technical support, commissioning, and maintenance across a specialist product range used worldwide.
This role is hands-on, varied, and customer-facing. You’ll be fault-finding on complex electro-mechanical systems, installing and commissioning equipment on customer sites, resolving technical issues, and ensuring products continue to perform reliably throughout their lifecycle. The position offers a mix of home-based support work, workshop activity, and UK/international travel for short service visits.
Key responsibilities for Field Service Engineer include:
Providing technical support to customers via phone, email, remote connection, or on-site attendance
Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults on industrial control systems down to component level
Carrying out repair, testing, and preventative maintenance across a range of electro-mechanical equipment
Undertaking equipment commissioning, system testing, and customer training at sites worldwide
Responding to service and warranty cases within agreed timeframes, ensuring high-quality customer experience
Producing accurate service documentation including reports, commissioning records, and fault analysis
Preparing RAMS documentation and ensuring safe working practices at all times
Using internal systems (e.g., SAP or equivalent) to log service calls, resolutions, and trend data
Liaising with Engineering, Production, and Sales teams to feedback technical issues and support product improvements Field Service Engineer – Essential Requirements:
ONC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering (formal apprenticeship highly desirable)
Proven experience in servicing, repairing, or commissioning industrial electrical/mechanical equipment
Strong electrical fault-finding skills with the ability to work to component level
Confident working with control systems, power electronics, sensors, and electro-mechanical assemblies
Solid organisational and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers
Willingness to travel internationally at short notice (typically short-duration trips)
IT skills including MS Office; experience with SAP or similar systems beneficial
Full UK Driving Licence and valid passport Why This Role?
