Specialist Grade Doctor - Luton Older People’s Mental Health Services
This is a newly developed post, intended to provide Specialty and Associate Specialist doctor input to Older People Services in Luton, in a community setting.
Responsibilities
The specialist doctor will work closely with other medical staff and the multidisciplinary team, providing clinical support for the assessment and management of mental health issues on a routine and emergency basis. The post holder is expected to work autonomously and be integral to the multidisciplinary team. On average, eight programmed activities per week will be devoted to direct clinical care and two structured programmed activities.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines).
* Minimum of twelve years’ medical work (continuous or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification.
* Minimum of six years’ experience in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades.
* Experience equivalent to SAS from other medical grades, including overseas experience.
* Section 12(2) MHA 1983 approval (or ability to achieve within six months of appointment), or Approved Clinician status/approval and registration on the AC register.
* Option to pursue other routes for career development, such as support to gain a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
Experience
* At least six years’ experience of psychiatry clinical practice post medical qualification and at least three years experience in addictions psychiatry.
* Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry.
