DAC Beachcrofts Employment, Pensions and Immigration team is one of the largest teams in the UK. The Newcastle team has a strong reputation in the North East market, acting for significant household name corporates as well as being a market leader in the public and independent health sectors. Currently the team comprises 2 Partners, 15 lawyers and 6 paralegals and administrative colleagues.
We are seeking an additional Paralegal to support our solicitors with their caseload of employment claims, initially focusing on a major national retailer’s defense of high‑profile multiple equal pay claims.
As a fee‑earning role, you will undertake document management activities, collate and redact documents, prepare bundles for Tribunal and Court hearings, and support witnesses, counsel and the team during hearings across the country—either in person or remotely.
Main Responsibilities
* Undertake a wide range of document management activities, particularly complex, document‑heavy exercises.
* Carry out disclosure tasks in litigated cases and conduct first‑level review of DSARs under data protection legislation, with the potential to take greater ownership of DSAR review over time.
* Manage substantial client contact for equal pay claims, gathering and preparing evidence.
* Formulate and apply search terms to electronically held data, sift and review raw data for relevance, identify non‑relevant/privileged/confidential material, collate, redact and index for production, work collaboratively with clients’ IT/discovery personnel.
* Assist with drafting and lodging defences to claims.
* Draft agendas and issue lists for case management discussions.
* Draft briefs to counsel and liaise with barristers and clerks.
* Prepare applications to Employment Tribunals and liaise with Tribunals.
* Research points of law.
* Determine relevant witnesses and check their availability.
* Draft basic witness statements.
* Assist with drafting COT3 settlements.
* Draft cost applications and prepare schedules of loss/costs.
* Maintain regular liaison with other paralegals, trainees and lawyers to manage caseloads and deadlines efficiently.
The Ideal Candidate
* Good academic record (2.1 in Law or related subject) or equivalent qualification/experience (CILEX, LPC, SQE).
* Previous paralegal experience in an employment team desirable, but not essential. Full training and development will be provided.
* Familiarity with e‑disclosure tools and platforms preferable.
* Confident communicator, able to deal effectively with internal and external contacts in both verbal and written communication.
* Close attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
* Sound IT skills.
* Flexible and self‑motivated team player.
