This post is fixed term/secondment for 10 months due to maternity cover

This is an exciting opportunity for a practitioner psychologist to join the CAMHS team on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. The role will involve clinical work, supervision and supporting the wider CAMHS team. The post holder will be required and supported to deliver psychological interventions within CAMHS, with children and young people, their families/cares and broader network, as per Matrics Plant. We have a strong professional structure within the P&PT team, led by a Consultant Psychologist, with three 8b psychologists leading on psychological practice in different aspects of the service. You would be joining another 8a psychologist, an Assistant Psychologist and a diverse range of skilled psychological therapy colleagues, including Systemic Family Therapists, Art Therapists, CBT Therapists and a Play Therapist. The P&PT team are also a valued part of Child Psychology and Psychological Therapy department in the Health Board. We have a number of child psychology services in a range of child health settings and in regional specialist services. We also link with other child psychologists in the LAs and 3rd sector. This friendly and supportive network meet regularly for professional support, CPD and reflective practice. We would be happy to accept applicants who are currently working in a band 7 post and looking for experience as a band 8a. This post is for 2.5 days per week, although we are happy to discuss flexibility with hours.

Main duties of the job

CAMHS provides support for children and young people (up to the age of 18 years) who have a mental health concern that: has not resolved with input from emotional health and well-being services; has a major impact on activities of daily life over an extended period; presents significant risk to self or others. Swansea Bay CAMHS is an integrated service with the whole team based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and with additional clinical space in Swansea.

The post holder will work with the P&PT team to develop and deliver psychological interventions as appropriate. The team works across the early intervention and complex multi-disciplinary parts of CAMHS and there will be opportunities to develop particular interests within the role. The post holder will also be required to offer supervision and consultation as appropriate and as agreed with the Lead Psychologist, and to participate and/or lead in service planning and development.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Post-graduate Doctorate/Qualification in specialist area of (Clinical/Counselling/Forensic) Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or for those trained overseas, as accredited by the British Psychological Society or its equivalent allowing registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.
2. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC.
3. Clinical supervision training for Doctoral Trainee Practitioner Psychologist.

Desirable criteria

4. Post-doctoral/qualification training courses in specific areas of practitioner psychology (Clinical/Forensic/Counselling).

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Substantial assessed experience of working as a qualified practitioner psychologist, normally including significant post-qualification experience within the designated speciality where the post is located, or relevant transferable skills.
6. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care, with experience of co-ordinating care within the context of multi-disciplinary care-planning.

7. Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.

8. Well-developed skills in effectively communicating very complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information, both orally and in writing, to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

10. Ability to speak Welsh
