ASSISTANT QUANTITY SURVEYOR - Permanent Opportunity

We’re looking for a motivated and commercially minded Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team and support the successful delivery of high‑quality building projects. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your career within a supportive, collaborative environment at GRAHAM.
You will play a key role in cost control, value recovery, procurement, and contract administration, working closely with our wider project team, supply chain partners, and subcontractors. It is important that you have experience working with NEC contracts, along with strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships across the project team.
Your Responsibilities
• Establishing project budgets, including allocation of cost codes for accurate cost reporting.
• Reviewing main contract and subcontract terms and conditions, ensuring correct alignment between the two.
• Procuring subcontract packages and compiling tender documentation.
• Preparing transparent and detailed cost reports, including cost‑to‑completion forecasts.
• Administering main contracts and subcontracts, including the preparation of contractual correspondence for delays, loss and expense.
• Liaising regularly with the Employer’s team to progress commercial matters.
• Supporting the management of project staff resources to maintain effective cost control.
• Undertaking delay analysis and preparing accompanying narratives for claim submissions.
• Resolving subcontract issues as they arise.
• Ensuring variation/compensation event mechanisms are applied correctly and in accordance with deadlines.
• Forecasting project cash flow and supporting budget preparation.
• Working closely with procurement to agree project allowances.
• Attending progress and commercial meetings, representing the business professionally.
Essential Criteria
• Degree in Quantity Surveying or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience assisting with the commercial delivery of building projects.
• Strong understanding and practical experience of NEC contract administration.
• Excellent commercial acumen with an ability to analyse and report financial information.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Competent IT skills, including MS Office and relevant construction systems.
• Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria
• Experience working for a main contractor within the building sector.
• Experience managing subcontract procurement processes.
• Familiarity with cost management software (e.g., Cemar, COINS, or similar).
• Experience supporting claims, delay analysis, or preparing loss and expense submissions.
• Strong negotiation skills and experience engaging with clients and supply chain partners.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider project team.
• Membership or working towards membership of a professional body (RICS, CIOB).
