Purpose of the Role
The Data Centre HVAP Technician is responsible for supervising and executing both planned and reactive maintenance activities within a mission-critical environment.
Working closely with the Engineering Supervisor, Shift Leader, and client representatives, the role ensures full compliance with site policies, procedures, and Health & Safety regulations.
As a High Voltage Authorised Person (HVAP), you will ensure all safety documentation is completed to the highest standard and that all works are carried out in strict accordance with Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver routine and reactive maintenance across building plant, equipment, and infrastructure, consistently meeting or exceeding SLAs
Respond promptly to BMS alarms and undertake emergency repairs as required
Implement, manage, and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) systems to ensure safe operations
Develop, review, and follow switching schedules, SOPs, and EOPs in line with Safe Systems of Work
Maintain evaporative cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with ACoP L8 (Legionella) requirements
Ensure effective management and availability of spare parts to support maintenance and fault response
Maintain accurate maintenance records using REALM task sheets
Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS) for in-house works
Supervise engineering subcontractors, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and site procedures
Ensure all work packs contain required documentation and review subcontractor RAMS prior to approval
Provide technical and operational support during unplanned incidents or system faults
Fulfil all duties associated with High Voltage Authorised Person status

Experience & Skills Required
Qualifications & Certifications
High Voltage Authorisation (essential)
Current Wiring Regulations certification
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
Emergency First Aid at Work
Manual Handling (advantageous)
PASMA and IPAF (preferred)
Experience
Proven experience managing real-time incidents and faults within business-critical or data centre environments
Experience in a similar HVAP or critical engineering role
Strong understanding of Health & Safety obligations in live operational environments
Knowledge of multiple interlinked systems, including Fire, PMS, and BMS platforms
