Job Description & Responsibilities

The aim of this post is to provide clinical capacity for the current oesophageal service and to help develop the service towards becoming a tertiary centre for complex benign and early oesophago‑gastric malignant disease. It is also to provide support to the specialised endotherapy treatment programme for patients with Barrett's oesophagus and early oesophageal and gastric cancer. This includes:
* Participating in both outpatients and inpatients gastroenterology and physiology service activity, including general gastroenterology and endoscopy, and delivering an exemplary standard of care. There may also be a requirement to provide general medical care on an infrequent basis including post‑take ward rounds.
* Working within, and helping to develop, a large, expert multidisciplinary team.
* Playing a significant role in the leadership and continuous improvement of the service.
* Collaborating with other members of Kings Health Partners including clinical sessions at Kings College Hospital subject to job planning.
* Contributing to a culture of research and development.
Additional responsibilities include: remaining up to date with a rapidly evolving clinical and surgical landscape, adapting the clinical to new technology, and supporting service improvement.
Professional Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration and licence to practise. Entered in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT for both Gastroenterology and General Medicine MRCP or equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
* Higher degree (e.g. MD/PhD).
Clinical Experience
* Comprehensive clinical experience in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology. Interest and post‑training expertise in oesophageal disease and a demonstrable understanding of the practice of hospital‑centred medicine in the NHS.
Desirable Clinical Experience
* Subspecialty training in endoscopic therapy (EMR/RFA); experience in tertiary referral oesophageal disorders.
Clinical Skills
* Fully competent in upper and lower GI endoscopy; experience in tertiary referral Barrett's oesophagus.
* Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience in the management of junior medical staff.
Desirable Clinical Skills
* Training/qualification in educational supervision.
* Ability to perform EMR without supervision.

* Evidence of understanding of the role of clinicians in management and service development.
* Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management.
* Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.

* Experience of clinical guidelines development.
