Established in 1997, Taiko was the first manufacturer of sushi for the UK supermarket industry and has evolved into a leading producer of Sushi, Food To Go, Prepared Meals, and Snacking products in the UK, supplying Waitrose, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s, among others. Over the past 25 years, Taiko has launched more first-to-market Sushi and Food to Go products than any other UK sushi manufacturer.
The role of the Specification Technologist is to ensure the legal compliance and safety of products and packaging by preparing, maintaining, and managing specifications for raw materials, finished products, packaging materials, product labels, printed packaging, artwork, and related documents.
This position reports to the Specification Manager.
* You’ll have a strong customer focus with the ability to communicate regularly with customers.
* You’ll be able to work within a team and collaborate with other departments, demonstrating flexibility and managing time-critical tasks of varying complexity.
* Good English comprehension, both written and spoken, is essential, along with the ability to interpret regulations and produce accurate, concise work.
* Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation are crucial for success in this role.
* Proficiency in computer skills and experience with customer website management are required, particularly with Waitrose.
Principal Responsibilities
* Create, manage, and maintain specifications for all products produced by Taiko Foods.
* Source, manage, and maintain specifications for ingredients, raw materials, and packaging used by Taiko Foods, ensuring accuracy and legality.
* Manage customer-specific websites and databases; update policy documents and summarize information for internal distribution; handle customer questionnaires as needed.
* Facilitate creation and project management of packaging artwork and labels for new and existing products, ensuring legality and accuracy prior to approval.
* Manage the approved label database and upload data to support labeling operations.
* Coordinate with the NPD technologist to ensure successful completion of all New Product Development projects.
* Conduct supplier risk assessments and approvals; maintain approved supplier registers with accurate and current information to manage supplier risks.
* Perform ingredient and packaging risk assessments; maintain related registers.
* Support allergen management and contribute to HACCP systems, ensuring compliance with BRC standards.
* Conduct annual traceability checks for seafood, meat, and packaging suppliers.
Administrative Responsibilities
* Support the achievement of principal responsibilities as required.
* Assist in meeting overall objectives as needed.
