Description
Following the acquisition of Dunedin Academic Press, LUP is seeking a Senior Commissioning Editor to join the Books Editorial team. Ideally, the editor will have experience of acquiring in the fields of Earth Sciences or Climate Studies but we will also consider applicants with commissioning experience in Social Science fields.
The Senior Commissioning Editor will undertake the following duties:
* Commission at least 30 books per annum in the fields of Earth Science, Climate Studies and Social Science (including, but not limited to, slavery studies and migration);
* Identify new publishing projects and manage the subsequent process, including proposal and manuscript peer review, costings, negotiation of contracts, list development, production handover, covers and blurbs, and author and series editor relations;
* Manage the newly acquired Dunedin Academic Press list with regard to the backlist, author and series editor relations, and future commissioning;
* Research new publishing opportunities and formats, including digital and open access projects;
* Act as an ambassador for LUP at academic conferences and events, and presenting on issues in publishing when called upon;
* Contribute to and work in partnership with the LUP Editorial Advisory Board (the body of scholars that approves LUP proposals for contracting);
* Supply marketing, finance and production colleagues with required information on time;
* Contribute to the Books Editorial team overall, and further support the academic community, working with the team and the Editorial Director to meet the aims of LUP’s strategic plan;
* Such other activities related to books publication as may be considered necessary.
Person specification
The successful candidate will have:
* A minimum of 5 years books commissioning experience in Earth Science (preferred) or Social Sciences;
* Demonstrable experience of networking with authors and reviewers, and the confidence to represent LUP at a range of events;
* An awareness of current issues and pressures in the publishing industry and in higher education;
* Strong organisation skills, the ability to meet deadlines and targets, and good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
* The ability to work well independently as well as have enthusiasm to contribute to a lively and ambitious team are essential qualities.

* Salary: £35,000 (LUP salary band 4) plus potential bonus
* Benefits include 36 days holiday plus Bank Holidays and excellent USS pension scheme.
This role is preferably two days in the office at 4 Cambridge Street, Liverpool (either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) and three days remote working. However, we will also consider remote working for the right candidate..
