Job Summary
Analytical Laboratory Technician. Location: Par, St Austell, Cornwall. Hours: 37.5 per week. Contract: Permanent, full-time. Salary: Up to £27,468.04 per annum (DOE). Reporting to: Laboratory Manager.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake laboratory‑scale analytical testing using approved methods and Good Laboratory Practice.
* Operate, monitor and maintain instrumentation including potentially SEM, ICP, Nitrogen, Mercury, Carbon/Sulphur analysers, XRD or XRF.
* Record, check and report analytical results using LIMS and supporting systems within agreed timescales.
* Carry out routine calibration, quality control checks and proficiency testing in line with ISO/IEC 17025.
* Identify and report non‑conformities, equipment issues and sample deviations, supporting corrective actions.
* Support laboratory investigations and experimental programmes as directed.
* Maintain a clean, organised and compliant laboratory environment and support continuous improvement.
Health, Safety and Environment
The role requires strict compliance with health and safety procedures, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work. The post‑holder will handle hazardous chemicals and operate analytical equipment at elevated temperatures and pressures, in line with approved controls.
About You
* Degree or equivalent qualification in a science‑based discipline.
* At least one year’s experience working in a laboratory environment.
* Practical experience of analytical techniques such as SEM, ICP‑OES, ICP‑MS, XRF or XRD.
* Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
* High attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to deadlines.
* Good written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive and safety‑conscious approach.
