SEMH Teaching Assistant Agency: Teaching Personnel Location: Egremont (CH44) Start Date: April 2026 Rate of Pay: From £13.75 per hour About the Role Teaching Personnel is delighted to be supporting a warm, nurturing primary school in Egremont, Wirral, known for its family‑centred ethos and strong focus on wellbeing. The school is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with social, emotional and mental‑health needs, helping them feel safe, regulated and ready to learn within a highly supportive environment. Your responsibilities will include: Providing calm, consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and develop positive coping strategies. Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team to implement personalised emotional‑regulation plans and behaviour‑support strategies. Encouraging positive relationships, resilience and social skills through patient, nurturing interactions. Supporting the pupil’s access to learning through tailored activities that reduce anxiety, build confidence and foster independence. Using de‑escalation approaches and trauma‑informed practice to maintain a safe, supportive learning environment. Assisting with behaviour plans, emotional check‑ins and the use of sensory or therapeutic tools. Contributing to wider classroom activities when appropriate, helping maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture. Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers to support consistent SEMH development. About the School: Rated Good by Ofsted, with Outstanding judgements for Behaviour & Attitudes and Leadership & Management. Pupils’ behaviour is described as exemplary, with children consistently following the school values. Well‑established in the community and has a strong reputation with positive parental relationships. Despite serving an area with high levels of disadvantage (around two‑thirds of pupils eligible for free school meals), the school maintains outcomes in line with national expectations. Pupils enjoy a wide variety of lunchtime and after‑school clubs, chosen based on pupil feedback to offer something for everyone. The school has a designated SEMH resourced provision, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental‑health needs. There is a strong focus on reading, with pupils talking enthusiastically about their favourite authors and books. Leadership is described as exemplary, driving continuous improvement and maintaining high expectations across the school. What we are looking for: Experience supporting children with SEMH needs or behaviour‑related challenges. A calm, patient approach focused on nurturing and building trust. Understanding of trauma‑informed practice, emotional‑regulation strategies or behaviour‑support approaches (desirable but not essential). Previous experience within educational, care or youth‑work settings. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
