Main Duties 1. Assesses and treats own specialist caseload of clients and maintains associated records 2. Provides, develops, and manages highly specialist interventions 3. Clinically supervises assistant practitioners, graduate psychologists and doctoral trainees 4. Contributes to the supervision of less experienced qualified psychologists 5. Works in the community, in hospital, and in outpatient facilities with individuals, families, and other teams and services involved 6. Co-ordinates provision of a specialist service and provides specialist advice and consultation to other professions and carers. Person Specification Qualifications and Professional Registration Essential • A Post graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology • HCPC Registration as a Clinical Psychologist • Evidence of continuing professional development • Clinical supervision training Desirable • Specialist training relevant to neuropsychology Experience • Worked as a qualified clinical psychologist for a minimum of three years. • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist at a specialist level within neuropsychology. • Experience of working with and assessing a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient, residential care settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. • Well established knowledge and skills in using a broad range of advanced assessments and tests relevant to neurological clients. • Experience of providing clinical supervision to trainee clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and other members of the MDT. Skills and Knowledge • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS • Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies relevant to psychology and neuropsychology. • Commitment to and enthusiasm for multidisciplinary team working. • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.
