Engineering Manager
Location: Plymouth
Salary: £55,000 – £70,000

The Opportunity
Our client, a leading organisation operating within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to take ownership of engineering operations at a key site.
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient operation of all engineering assets. You will lead a small but capable team, oversee maintenance delivery, manage budgets and contractors, and act as the accountable person for engineering compliance.
This role sits at the heart of site operations and offers the opportunity to influence standards, drive continuous improvement and play a key role in supporting long-term operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the accountable person for all engineering and legislative compliance on site
Ensure full compliance with relevant regulations and implement any legislative updates
Lead and develop the site maintenance team, setting standards and driving performance
Manage all site assets, ensuring safe operation, maintenance and timely repair
Oversee maintenance contracts, service providers and reactive works
Take ownership of the Repair & Maintenance (R&M) budget and deliverables
Utilise CMMS systems to plan, track and optimise maintenance activity
Lead engineering input into Management of Change processes
Develop and manage CAPEX and OPEX proposals, including financial reporting
Oversee delivery of engineering projects and site improvement initiatives
Engage with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders where required
Support and lead audits, investigations and continuous improvement activities
Work closely with wider business functions to implement engineering standards and best practice
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
Degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g. DSEAR, PSSR, LOLER, PUWER)
Experience using CMMS systems to manage maintenance and assets
Proven experience managing engineering teams in a live operational environment
Strong project management experience, including CAPEX delivery
Ability to interpret technical documentation (e.g. P&IDs, schematics, datasheets)
Strong decision-making capability and ownership mindset
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
Experience within highly regulated industries such as oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical, energy or similar
