GP with a Special Interest in Gynaecology

The Black Country ICB is looking for a GP with Special Interest (GPwSI) to lead the pilot for the Unscheduled Bleeding Intermediate Triage Service (UBITS) in response to the national and WMCA Unscheduled Bleeding pathway redesign.

This role will be for 1 PA per week in total in a fixed term role until 31 March 2026.

In November 2024, the Black Country ICS Cancer Board approved the preferred model of a primary care led model for Unscheduled Bleeding whilst on HRT.

The expected timeframes for the pilot are beginning of August 2025 to end of September 2025 starting in Wolverhampton place with a view to continue in the role once the pathway is extended to the rest of the Black Country.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including:

* Telephone/virtual consultations, referrals, advice and guidance and queries.
* Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
* Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
* In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
* Providing counselling and health education.
* Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
* Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards using the agreed electronic clinical systems.

Job responsibilities

* In accordance with the Job Plan as agreed, the post-holder will makethemselves available to undertake a variety of duties including telephone/virtualconsultations, referrals, advice and guidance and queries.

* In general, the post-holder will be expected toundertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GPwSIworking within primary care.
* To take an active role in Clinical Governance,and lead and participate in audit projects relevant to clinical care.
* To attend appropriate induction and completeall mandatory training.
* Work flexibly across sites within the community or virtually.

Research andDevelopment

* Activelysupports and contributes to the development of key performance indicators forthe successful assessment of performance
* Testand review new concepts, models, methods, practices, products andequipment
* Contributesto ensuring there are processes in place for spreading and sharing learning andoutcomes.

Planning and Organisation

* Supportimplementation of strategic modernisation/service improvement and commissioningstrategies and any associated action plans, in accordance with the agreedpriorities of the team
* Contributeto the development of performance and governance strategies and the developmentand implementation of improvement programmes
* Contributeto the formulation of plans of up to three year and strategic direction withinthe team on issues, taking a lead for specific workstreams.
* Deliveragainst objectives, achieving quality outcomes, prioritising own workload andworking to tight deadlines.

Policy and ServiceDevelopment

* Propose changes to own project/function, informing policy and making recommendationsfor service delivery
* Contributeto the review and development of existing information management systems andcontribute to the development of an integrated approach to the service.


Person Specification


Experience

* Demonstrated specialist experience working in Womens Health/ Gynaecology previously
* Competent in performing gynaecological assessments and Minor procedure


Personal Qualities

* Organisational and IT skills
* Ability to implement change
* Communication Skills


Qualifications

* MBBS/MBCHB
* MRCGP
* Registered on the GMC Specialist Register
* Higher Degree (PhD, MD)
* Past specialist registrar training in Gynaecology
* BMS Management of /menopause or Advanced Certificate in Menopause BMS/FSRH equivalent
* DRCOG


Skills and Knowledge

* Experience of Audit
* Satisfactory GP Appraisal +/- Revalidation as per GMC
