About the Role
Our client is a market-leading manufacturer of high-end precision machined components and assemblies, serving STEM markets including Bio-Tech & Medical Equipment, High-Tech Industrial Applications, Defence and Aerospace. Based in Bedfordshire, they are looking for an experienced CNC Production Manager to lead site operations and drive delivery of their production plan.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with a strong CNC machining background who can hit the ground running, maintain quality and delivery standards, and lead a skilled production team.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Delivery
1. Lead all production activities, placing health and safety as the top priority at all times
2. Deliver monthly sales targets and maintain daily delivery schedules
3. Ensure critical promise dates are met and communicated to all relevant parties
4. Report machine breakdowns and propose corrective actions
5. Ensure Preventative Machine Maintenance is conducted
Quality
6. Achieve on-time delivery in excess of 90%
7. Maintain reject rates below 1% of turnover
8. Drive quality ownership back to the shopfloor – “Build in Quality” culture
9. Promote continuous improvement and lean thinking to eliminate process waste
People & Leadership
10. Manage and lead the production team – staffing, holidays, training, appraisals, attendance and discipline
11. Motivate and coach team leaders and machinists to operational success
12. Set departmental KPIs and review ongoing performance
13. Promote and uphold high standards through personal example
14. Support tool utilisation and overhead tooling budget management
15. Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety and environmental regulations
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
16. CNC machining experience – this is a firm requirement; candidates without a CNC background will not be considered
17. Minimum 5 years’ production experience in the engineering or precision manufacturing sector
18. At least 3 years in a leadership, supervisory or management role
19. Time-served CNC machinist (milling or turning) from an apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience
20. Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
21. Solid understanding of precision engineering processes and materials
Desirable:
22. Relevant management qualification
23. Estimation or project management certifications
24. Practical knowledge of MRP, master scheduling and capacity planning
25. Familiarity with Progress MIS or similar production management systems
