CYP Community Occupational Therapist
* CYP Community ED Team work with young people up until 17 who have suspected or diagnosed EDs. The team provides intensive assessment and treatment for children with complex emotional, sensory, behavioural and psychological difficulties, offering intensive work with families/parents/carers to develop their parenting skills.
* Our highly experienced and dedicated multidisciplinary team is committed to offering the highest standards of care to help children and families regain their self-confidence. Adopting a solution focused approach to manage challenges and steer a course towards optimism, newly realised potential and a positive future for the child and their family network.
* We recognise that Band 6’s are often the backbone of our clinical teams and we will support their development both clinically and managerially. You will have opportunities to supervise staff, be an educator and have access to both internal and external training.

Main duties of the job
With support from the Head Occupational Therapist (OT) you will be completing OT assessments and interventions. In your OT role you will provide individual interventions and group work, using assessment tools and recovery principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment. You will also have opportunities to provide supervision of fieldwork placements to OT students and other team member.
You will also be trained in Family Based Treatment to be able to offer a family based treatment which is evidenced based approach working with family and carers to enhance the recovery journey of the young person

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Specific to assessment the Occupational Therapist (OT) will utilise professional specific, evidence based assessment tools in order to establish a child’s/ young person’s baseline functional and performance capacity; from which recommendations can determine further on going care and treatment to enable optimum functioning, and social and educational participation.
* To establish links with other Occupational Therapists and Child and Family workers in interfacing inpatient and community CAMHS eating disorder teams to enable effective continuation of Occupational Therapy input if required.
* To support transitions for the young person to adult service. Or work with the young person as part of an ageless service as this develops within the service.
* To manage a defined caseload of children and young people with complex mental health needs; using evidence based and recovery principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment.
* To integrate evidence based practice and skilful use of assessments & interventions with personal recovery principles in order to improve the child/young person’s’ quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead.
* To apply a high level of understanding of the effects of mental illness and physical conditions; providing training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the child/young person’s social and physical environment. This will include undertaking assessments and making recommendations with regards to the provision of equipment/aids and adaptations.

Person specification
Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* Health& Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered Occupational Therapist.
* Evidence of an active interest in further professional development with CAMHS, Paediatric &/or Mental health specific workshops and short courses
Desirable criteria
* Post graduate training in Sensory Integration.
* Practice Placement Educator’s Course.
* Registration with RCOT.
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
* Relevant post qualification experience of working with children or young people with emotional and behavioural issues or eating disorder experience .
* Experience in using a range of standardised OT assessments.
* Experience of effective partnership working, with external providers, in promoting socially inclusive opportunities for children and young peoples.
* Experience in managing resources e.g. financial, stock, equipment etc.
Desirable criteria
* Experience working within a CAMHS setting
* Eating Disorder Experience
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Specialist knowledge and application of OT assessments and interventions and outcome measures, relevant to client group.
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
* Skills in producing timely, accurate and informative reports and notes.
* Excellent communication skills i.e. written, verbal, listening and proficient use of up to date systems of communication i.e. IT systems, e-mail, fax, telephone etc
* Knowledge of personal recovery principles and their application to service delivery.
* Clear concept of Occupational Therapy and models of practice
* Ability to work autonomously, on own initiative and under pressure to meet deadlines; & to prioritise workload.
