The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Lead Operational Comms Engineer (North), based in Dundee on a permanent basis. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week.

This is a full time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.

The role of the Lead Operational Comms Engineer is to manage the operational support, monitoring and maintenance of Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (SFRS) Operational Comms services that support core organisational functions. This includes the resolution of incidents, fulfilment of service requests and the implementation of changes via change enablement, all in line with ITIL framework principles. This highly technical role has responsibility for the design and development, implementation, monitoring, support, and optimisation of SFRS operational mobilisation and telephony services, together with their associated systems. The postholder also has responsibility for the development, implementation, support and optimisation of communication and electronic equipment and devices. The postholder will apply proven communication, analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximise the benefit of Digital and Technology Services Operational Comms infrastructure investment. In addition, as a senior member of the Operational Comms team, the post holder will demonstrate leadership talents to energise, motivate and inspire colleagues around them, including direct reports. This post comes with responsibility to manage workload, performance, and development of the Operational Comms team, which will include a range of line management duties, including but not limited to, daily assignment of tasks, organisation of available resources (including management of leave), supporting personal development and undertaking performance appraisals. The post holder will work with direct reports to develop, maintain, and adhere to processes and procedures to ensure effective and efficient working practices. Lead engineers are expected to deputise for the Operational Comms Manager as required.

There is a requirement to participate in an agreed 24/7 on-call rota to provide engineering cover and advice for mobilising and essential systems.

Travel throughout Scotland, where required to meet needs of SFRS or attend or conduct in person meetings. Accommodation will be provided where appropriate.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

In addition to the agreed salary, a market allowance is applicable to this post for suitably experienced candidates. Taking account of this market allowance, the potential combined maximum remuneration for this post is £54,279. The salary range for this role is SFRS Grade 7 £48,810 - £51,279 per annum, and where applicable a market allowance of £3,000 per annum will also be included.

The market allowance is an additional payment agreed to be paid for an initial two-year period. This allowance is subject to review and may be varied or removed where market pressures change or no longer exist. SFRS Market Allowance Policy outlines the specific criteria relating to the application of market allowance payments and the conditions associated with this. The market allowance will be payable where the appointee is able to demonstrate they are suitably competent, experienced and qualified to undertake the full aspects of the role.

This post is also subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. Therefore, the successful candidate's will be subject to a Standard Disclosure record check through Disclosure Scotland.
