Overview

An exciting new Consultant opportunity to join the Child Health Team in Cornwall as Named Doctor for Children in Care and work clinically as Community Paediatrician. We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor who will be a proactive addition to our workforce, and who is interested in taking the service forward, with our close links with our hospital colleagues and medical school. The Royal Cornwall Hospitals' NHS Trust (RCHT) is part of the Cornwall Healthcare Community, working in partnership with other local trusts to deliver high quality healthcare services across the county.

The Trust has close links to medical specialist services in the Southwest Peninsula and beyond, serving a widespread local population as well as thousands of visitors to Cornwall each year. The Trust delivers acute medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 400,000 and has a higher proportion of elderly people than the national average. The population more than doubles during the busy holiday periods. RCHT comprises three main hospitals: The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro; West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance, and St. Michaels in Hayle.

Outpatient and other services are a member of corporate support services located away from the main hospital sites.

Responsibilities

* Hold the statutory role of Named Doctor for Children in Care (Looked After Children) on behalf of RCHT and work clinically within the Community Paediatric Team.
* Promote good professional practice within the organisation, providing advice and expertise for fellow professionals, and ensure robust safeguarding arrangements in partnership with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding and Associate Director Safeguarding & Statutory Services.
* Work as part of an established multidisciplinary team to undertake specialist medical assessment, investigation and clinical management of children with neurodevelopmental problems through designated clinics; contribute to the multidisciplinary assessment process.
* Take part in the daytime non-CSA child protection rota, both directly and in a supervisory role.

About the Trust and working environment

The Trust employs 5,000+ staff, has a budget of £380 million and 750 beds. We work with health and social care organisations including NHS Kernow and NHS England to meet local healthcare needs. We provide acute medical, surgical and specialist services to around 500,000 people, which can increase during busy holiday periods. The Trust has teaching hospital status as part of the University of Exeter Medical School, and is committed to maximising the range of specialist care offered locally.

We offer a rewarding career in a supportive working environment with extensive educational links to help you realise your potential and develop skills to provide outstanding healthcare to the local community.

Benefits and requirements

* Benefits include optional pension and life assurance and a dedicated Childcare Co-ordination Team.
* We are committed to developing, engaging and supporting staff to work in different ways to respond to the changing environment.
* The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is a non-smoking organisation.
* If an alternative format of this application form is required (Braille, audio or large print), please contact 01872 255755.
* In submitting an application, you authorise the Trust to verify NHS service details via the Electronic Staff Record Inter Authority.
