Band 6 Education Mental Health Practitioner and Supervisor - Bristol
Job Summary: The Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) service is an exciting service in the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) commissioning area. It is part of the Government's response to the Green Paper in 2017 to increase access to mental health support, by delivering evidence-based early interventions in education settings for children and young people (CYP) presenting with mild-moderate mental health difficulties.
The post holder will work as an autonomous and responsible EMHP alongside offering supervision within the scope of the MHST initiative. The post holder will work in partnership with schools to deliver a range of mental health interventions within school settings. This may involve group work or direct work with children/young people as well as offering mental health-based consultation, and advice around mental health to teaching staff. The post holder will be responsible to ensure the effective co-ordination of clinical care provided within schools including consideration to safeguarding and clinical risk issues where indicated. The post holder will contribute to the clinical leadership of the team, providing supervision and caseload management to trainee and qualified EMHPs. The post holder will be responsible for the clinical skills supervision and caseload management supervision of EMHPs in the MHST.
Job Responsibilities
* Therapeutic Assessment and Intervention: Assess and deliver outcome focused, evidence-based interventions in educational settings for CYP experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties, working in collaboration with the education function of the setting.
* Facilitate fair access to services and promote social inclusion regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
* Supervision: Deliver clinical supervision to supervisees on a scheduled basis to ensure safe practice and governance obligations of the MHST service are adhered to.
* Effort and Health & Safety Factors: Working with service users in distress; may involve self-harm or risk to self/others. Frequent driving and working across multiple sites. Prepared to work mainly out of allocated schools, with satellite sites, main office and some home working.
* Work with safeguarding protocols and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and local procedures.
* Manage caseload in conjunction with team requirements and attend multi-disciplinary meetings as appropriate.
* Maintain clear, professional records and complete data collection in line with health and education service protocols.
Training And Supervision
* Continue to apply learning from Supervisor training directly to practice.
* Present caseload information in supervision to ensure safe practice and governance obligations are met.
* Disseminate research and service evaluation findings through agreed channels.
Professional
* Ensure professional registration is up-to-date and adhere to standards of practice and confidentiality.
* Ensure safety and wellbeing concerns are communicated to appropriate parties as needed.
* Maintain continuing professional development and participate in performance reviews.
Communications And Working Relationships
* Develop professional relationships with service users, parents and carers, CAMHS providers, school staff, school nurses, and other local NHS partners.
Effort And Health & Safety Factors
* Working with service users in distress; may involve challenging behaviours. Long periods of concentration; use of computer/VDU. Frequent traveling across sites and some home working.
Qualifications
Essential
* EMHP Supervisor Qualification
* LI CBT EMHP qualification
* Awareness and commitment to anti-oppressive practice
Desirable
* Two years experience within an MHST
* Knowledge of the education system in England
* Experience in multi-agency working and wider health and social care community.
