Job Description

The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which are responsible for 24% of UK greenhouse gas emissions. We need to fully decarbonise by 2050, while doubling electricity production and ensuring energy security. Effective regulation is essential to protect people and the environment from emissions and climate impacts. This role is a fixed‑term (up to 2 years) position for someone with experience in regulating energy sectors such as combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
Qualifications
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging diversity issues.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience in regulating processes with control measures for emissions to air.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
