Are you passionate about reducing health inequalities and reaching those most at risk? Join our dynamic CLASH/SHOC team as a Health Promotion Specialist, working directly with vulnerable and often hard-to-reach individuals across Camden, Islington, and Haringey.
About the Role:
We’re looking for someone with current, hands-on experience in a Health Promotion setting, who can confidently engage individuals from a wide range of communities. This role requires a flexible, proactive, and empathetic approach to support people in improving their sexual and reproductive health.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
Outreach and Engagement:
* Identify and work with at-risk individuals, including:
* Commercial sex workers
* Homeless individuals
* People who use drugs
* LGBTQI+/Men who have sex with men (MSM)
* Black African/Black Caribbean and other Ethnic Minority communities
Settings may include:
Flats, saunas, hostels, drug & alcohol services, sex-on-premises venues, leisure centres, barbershops, hair salons, places of faith, community events, and more.
Client Support:
* Deliver sexual health and HIV prevention support using motivational interviewing and other techniques.
* Assist clients in navigating clinical pathways and accessing Pan-London services.
* Promote informed health choices and behaviour change.
Clinical Tasks:
Perform asymptomatic screening, including venepuncture and quick check testing.
Training and Advocacy:
Deliver sessions to professionals and community staff to enhance awareness and service reach.
Requirements:
* Substantial, demonstrable experience in face-to-face client work within a health promotion setting.
* Confidence working with diverse and marginalised populations.
* Excellent communication skills and cultural awareness.
* Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
* Ability to travel across Camden, Islington, and Haringey

The job role will include:
Working with vulnerable clients
* Identifying and engaging with individuals from target groups in our Health Promotion contract
* To attend agreed settings and venues to work with at risk groups identified by the service, which includes but is not exclusive to: Commercial sex workers, Homeless Clients, Drug Users, Men who have sex with men, and Black and Ethnic Minority communities
* Supporting individuals in learning how to make better health choices and supporting them in initiating and sustaining appropriate behavioural changes
* Work with clients to identify on going communication and engage with them in HIV prevention and other sexual health issues using motivational interviewing skills or other models as agreed by the service
* Contact with clients and assisting patient through their clinic pathway
* Helping people to find and use the right services including Pan London services
* Recording and reporting activity and results

Due to the nature of this role flexibility is required and shift work which includes late evening and weekends are essential.

Education/Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of experience working with relevant client groups
* Educated to post Degree level in specialism or equivalent level of experience working with relevant client groups
Desirable criteria
* EducationG.C.S.E/A levels or equivalent qualification and experience
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of having worked in the NHS, including experience post degree qualification
* Experience of having worked with relevant client groups
* Administering and co-ordinating outreach in a range of settings, including the organisation of different activities, prioritising tasks, monitoring and evaluating
* Delivery of workshops to a variety of users
* Working effectively with different agencies in the community, voluntary or statutory sectors
* Planning, delivering and evaluating training on good sexual health
Skills
Essential criteria
* Excellent organisational & prioritising skills
* Proficient IT skills Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Access)
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with range of individuals, including hard to reach client groups namely Commercial Sex Workers, Homeless Clients, Drug Users, Men who have sex with men, BMEA communities
* Able to undertake HIV testing/Asymptomatic screening including venepuncture and point of care testing.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of good sexual health and the barriers to these client groups accessing services
* Knowledge of current legislation and national guidance relating the client groups targeted
* Sound knowledge and understanding of STIs, HIV, contraception, and access to sexual health services
