Job Description:
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role is ideal for those interested in developing and enhancing their skills through quality and varied work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers to provide proactive legal advice on issues such as Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, among others. You will handle a full, varied, and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers will play an active role in team management, deputising for the Principal Solicitor and contributing to the delivery of first-class legal services.
If you are an effective, dynamic individual with some experience in managing and supervising people, and can motivate others while working in a team, we want to hear from you!
Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered, your application should clearly demonstrate:
* You are a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX, eligible to practise in England and Wales with a current practising certificate
* Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services
* The ability to provide solutions-focused advice and learn quickly about new subjects
* Effective teamwork and managing priorities to meet client and statutory deadlines
* Leadership and organizational skills in client and project meetings
* Advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council
The role is hybrid, with remote work considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, and the candidate will need to collect their laptop from the Reigate office on the first day.
This role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees.
The role contributes to the wider management of Legal Services and models the council's values and behaviors.
You will manage a demanding caseload, delivering solutions with minimal supervision, and support the council's aim to reduce reliance on external legal support. Advocacy work may be required.
You will also assist the Monitoring Officer in legal compliance matters and contribute to staff training within the Council.
