About the Role
Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater
Are you a skilled Mechanical Engineer with a passion for solving complex piping engineering challenges? Join our dynamic team at EDF UK and play a crucial role in supporting field design activities for the piping discipline. Your expertise will be vital in handling interfaces with various disciplines and resolving engineering issues during on-site installation of pipework and supports.
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. A Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
As the Mechanical Calculation Engineer, you will work closely with the discipline manager to organise the team and ensure the closure of site queries in compliance with HPC project milestones. You will interact with different stakeholders to support the successful completion of the project. Your role will involve performing mechanical stress analyses, proposing modifications, and maintaining quality assurance procedures in delivering the design.
Pay, Benefits & Culture
The salary range for this role is between £55,000 - £60,000 (Grade B). You’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement, as well as your existing salary, competence, experience, and qualifications. Our benefits include enhanced parental leave, electric vehicle leasing, health insurance, product discounts, critical illness insurance, technology vouchers, gym membership, and season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility and support collaboration, whether you're in our office, on site, or working remotely. We prioritize your safety, value, and inclusivity, fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome and empowered.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion, aiming for a balanced workforce that reflects a broad spectrum of backgrounds, including gender, ethnicity, LGBTQ+ identities, disabilities, and social mobility. We are a disability confident employer and will assist with reasonable adjustments during your application process.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will gather input data, analyse and update hypothesis notes, and prepare loading description reports. You will engage with stakeholders to clarify issues and perform mechanical stress analyses, including piping flexibility and FEA calculations. If sizing criteria are not met, you will propose modifications and perform hand calculations to assess feasibility. You will review calculation notes and oversee drawings subcontracted to external companies, ensuring compliance with Edvance’s QA procedures.
Who You Are
You hold a master’s degree in science or mechanical engineering, with experience in Mechanical Calculations, preferably within the nuclear industry. You are familiar with EUROCODE, ASME, and RCC-M codes, and proficient in 2D and 3D design software such as PDMS, NavisWorks, PIPESTRESS, RSTAB, and ANSYS.
Your experience includes working with piping and support calculation tools and in multicultural environments. You possess excellent interpersonal skills, are conscientious, organized, and capable of meeting commitments and deadlines. Strong report writing skills are essential. Desirable qualifications include experience with the HPC project or previous EPR studies and nuclear engineering knowledge.
Closing date for applications is 18th May 2025
