Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £25,400 per annum

Due to continued growth, a fantastic opportunity has arisen to join Optical Express as a Surgery Associate (Healthcare Assistant) based in our Newcastle and Leeds clinics.
The role involves travelling to cover other Optical Express surgery clinics (travel costs will be covered by the company).
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Following appropriate training, supervised practice, and competency achievement assessments, you will undertake all designated roles within the surgery team working across two surgical specialties: laser vision correction (LVC) and ophthalmic (IOL) theatres.
* Pre-operative testing: conducting tests prior to examination and treatment, assisting during the consent appointment process, including providing information to patients prior to their IOL or LVC procedure.
* Patient discharging: instructing patients pre- and post-procedure on eye care, updating medical records, and making follow-up appointments.
* Laser technician: preparing and calibrating lasers, understanding data, loading and transferring data, and safely operating lasers.
* Co-ordinating: controlling patient flow on the day of appointments to ensure minimal waiting times and managing queries.
* Assisting the surgeon during consent appointments and treatments—acting as a scrub assistant (LVC only), taking notes, and instilling eye drops.
* Undertaking the role of Healthcare Assistant in the IOL theatre to assist during surgery and with tasks such as decontamination of instruments.
* Participating in end-of-day activities: updating patient files, filing, compiling reports, cleaning, and stock management.
* Reporting untoward incidents, patient safety issues, and contributing to quality and risk management.
* Demonstrating excellent communication and presentation skills, adaptability, time management, confidentiality, and discretion.
* Flexibility to travel to other clinics regularly (travel costs covered by Optical Express).
