Job Description
As a Graduate Engineer on the Rail Electrical team, you will work on major railway projects such as track improvements, high‑speed rail links, and station capacity upgrades. You’ll contribute to innovative solutions that promote safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
* Assist in the design and specification of rail electrical systems including lighting, small power, earthing, bonding, points heating, traction power, and LV/HV distribution networks.
* Support site surveys, condition assessments, and inspections to inform design decisions and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
* Use industry‑leading software and BIM tools to produce drawings, models, and design documentation.
* Collaborate with colleagues from signalling, telecoms, and civil disciplines to integrate electrical design into overall railway systems.
* Contribute to the planning and phasing of electrical construction and commissioning works to minimise disruption to passengers and operations.
* Ensure designs promote sustainability, efficiency, and maintainability through the asset life cycle.
* Develop solutions that are safe to construct, operate, and maintain in line with railway safety and design standards.
* Support the design and improvement of electrical systems for stations, depots, and other railway facilities.
* Participate in project reviews, technical discussions, and client meetings to develop communication and coordination skills.
Qualifications
* BEng Electrical Engineering with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or above.
* MEng Electrical Engineering is an advantage.
* Rail modules or experience is an advantage.
* Demonstrable technical understanding of rail/electrical engineering.
* Enthusiastic interest in pursuing a career in rail engineering.
* Willingness to work towards chartership with the IET.
* Good Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
* Self‑motivated, ambitious, and able to prioritise work in a team environment.
