Job Description:
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role is ideal for those interested in developing and enhancing their skills through quality and varied work.
As part of a team of Contract Lawyers, you will provide proactive legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will handle a full, varied, and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers will play an active role in team management, deputising for the Principal Solicitor and contributing to the delivery of first-class legal services.
We seek effective, dynamic individuals with experience in managing and supervising teams, motivating others, and working collaboratively.
Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
* Eligibility to practice in England and Wales as a Solicitor, barrister, or Fellow of CILEX, with a current practicing certificate
* Negotiating and drafting experience in construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management
* Ability to provide solutions-focused advice and learn quickly about new subjects
* Effective teamwork and managing priorities to meet deadlines
* Leadership and organizational skills in client and project meetings
* Advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council
The role is hybrid; remote work will be considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, with the candidate expected to collect their laptop from our Reigate office on the first day.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees.
You will contribute to the wider management of Legal Services, modeling and embedding the council's values and behaviors.
You will manage a demanding caseload, delivering innovative solutions with minimal supervision.
The role supports the reduction of reliance on external legal support and may involve advocacy work.
You will assist the Monitoring Officer in advising the Council on illegality or procedural defaults.
The role includes contributing to staff training to keep the team updated on legal issues.
