About The Role

Start your career in the NHS as an Apprentice Electrician!

Are you enthusiastic, hands-on, and looking to kick start your career in electrical engineering? We are offering a fantastic opportunity to join our Estates and Facilities team as an Apprentice Electrician.

This is a structured apprenticeship programme, combining practical work with academic study. You’ll gain nationally recognised qualifications while working on a wide range of healthcare electrical systems across our hospital sites.

Your Remuneration Will Be Paid In Line With Annex 21 Of The NHS Agenda For Change, Based On The Top Of Band 5, As Follows


* Year 1: 65% of top of Band 5
* Year 2: 70% of top of Band 5
* Year 3: 75% of top of Band 5
* Year 4: On successful completion, eligible for Band 5 qualified post

This progressive pay model supports your development and reflects your growing responsibility over the course of the apprenticeship.

Main duties

What You'll Be Doing

* Assisting in the maintenance, inspection, and installation of electrical systems and equipment across Trust properties
* Learning from experienced electricians and engineers in a real world environment
* Attending college to complete the required technical qualifications (such as NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation)
* Developing skills in fault finding, testing, and safety procedures
* Supporting reactive and planned preventative maintenance work in line with NHS standards
* Carrying out planned maintenance work
* Carrying out new electrical works as and when required to BS 7671 IEE Regulations
* Interpreting work from all instructions, drawings and specifications
* Diagnosing and repairing faults in electrical plant and equipment, under supervision in year 1:
o Lighting and lighting circuits
o Electrical installation testing
o Power circuits
o Low voltage switchgear
o Fire alarm, emergency lighting and burglar alarm systems
o Emergency generators and associated switch gear
o Battery systems
o Air conditioning equipment and controls
o Heating controls, boiler controls and associated equipment
o Portable and fixed equipment
o Portable appliance testing
o Nurse call system
o Laundry equipment
o Various other hospital equipment and installations
Key Requirements

To apply for the role you will require a minimum of 3 GCSEs grades 4/C or above in maths, English and one science subject.

Ideally, you will have experience working as part of a team and demonstrate strong teamwork skills.

You will need to be a good communicator, (both written and verbal) and be able to participate in discussions, assess situations effectively, and manage time well. The ideal candidate will be computer literate, able to complete tasks independently, engage in training, provide feedback, and demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and progress.
