Background
Do you have the ambition and ability to play a key role in influencing the conservation and development of a city with unique historic importance?
The City of York Council have an exciting full time opportunity for one year during a period of planned staff leave. You will join a team of professionals specialising in building conservation, archaeology, urban design, architecture, landscape design, ecology, countryside management, and protected trees.
Key skills and responsibilities
A core work area will be to advise on applications affecting listed buildings and conservation areas. We are looking for a creative and helpful person, who is comfortable giving technical and architectural design advice at a range of building types and scales, including new build.
You will understand construction industry and developer pressures, and be a great communicator and negotiator. You will have a sound working and practical knowledge of the historic development, construction and detailing of buildings, as well as all other areas of conservation and architectural practice, relevant legislation and current issues.
Qualifications
You will have +2 years working at local authority, specialising in conservation, demonstrated by a Degree and Masters or Post Graduate Diploma in heritage conservation.

Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process.
