Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will assist SLTs in clinics and mainstream & specialist schools. The role involves delivering individual programmes, group work, developing resources, using IT and undertaking some administrative duties. You will work with teachers, teaching assistants, health visitors, SLTs and other assistants.
Applicants should have knowledge of normal child development and experience of working with children, including those with communication difficulties. Experience of working with, and using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is beneficial. We look for creative, flexible, well‑organised, communicative applicants with the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
• Deliver individual and group therapy programmes for children and young people.
• Develop and implement resources and IT tools.
• Support teachers and caregivers in implementing interventions.
• Record and maintain accurate clinical notes.
• Participate in clinical and line management supervision.
• Undertake delegated tasks and administrative duties as required.
Qualifications and Training
* Educated to GCSE standard in English and Maths.
* Formal knowledge and training to NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
* Training and knowledge in child development and childhood health conditions.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience working with children and young people in health, education or community settings.
* Experience supporting speech and language therapy, care or education programmes under professional guidance.
* Experience working with other professionals or caregivers to support a child/young person.
* Understanding of confidentiality and information handling.
* Knowledge of Makaton or similar signing systems.
Skills
* Effective communication with colleagues, professionals and young people.
* IT skills for writing clinical notes, plans and letters.
* Ability to undertake delegated tasks within role boundaries.
Driving
* Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Salary
£28,392 to £31,157 per annum, pro rata.
