To support our continued growth in both domestic and international markets, we are recruiting for a Product Development and Compliance Manager to establish and lead our product compliance function.
The Role
This is a newly created, senior-level position within the business, reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with the R&D, Design, and Production teams. You will have overall responsibility for the development of new products including ensuring that our products meet all relevant UK, European, US, and international regulatory requirements — from design concept through to market release.
You will be responsible for the management of product development and compliance systems, processes, and policies, as well as building a capable compliance team to manage current and future product ranges.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead responsibility for product development and compliance to UK, EU, US, and other market legislation/regulations, including the creation, review, and maintenance of product technical files for our full product range.
* Oversee an initial strategic project to re-assess key existing products (e.g. mobile lighting towers, battery-powered lighting systems & battery powered generators) and ensure ongoing compliance with current European legislation and harmonised standards.
* Advise R&D and Design teams to ensure new products are designed for compliance from the outset, covering relevant directives, standards, and testing requirements.
* Manage relationships with test houses, certification bodies, and regulatory authorities where applicable.
* Keep up to date with global compliance developments affecting our product portfolio (e.g. Machinery Regulation, Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, Eco-design, RoHS, REACH, UKCA, CE, UL, FCC, etc.) and implement necessary changes.
* Develop and implement internal processes, training, and documentation systems to ensure long-term compliance efficiency.
* Maintain accurate records in accordance with legal requirements, ensuring readiness for audits and market surveillance requests.
About You
* Experienced, confident, and self-motivated with a strong technical or engineering background (preferably in electrical/electronic product development or manufacturing).
* Proven experience in product compliance management, technical product development, or product certification for multi-market distribution.
* Strong understanding of UK, European, and international legislation and regulations, including (but not limited to) the Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, and related harmonised standards.
* Experience with portable electrical equipment and/or battery-powered systems is highly desirable.
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams.
* Exceptional communicator, with excellent spoken and written English, well-developed report writing and presentation skills, and acute attention to detail.
* Proactive, methodical, and able to translate complex technical requirements into practical design and manufacturing actions.
