The Opportunity
We’re looking for aDesignated Identification Officer to join our team at North Yorkshire Police. In this specialist role, you’ll be at the heart of the justice process by compiling identification procedures and facilitating the viewing of them to confirm whether a suspect has been correctly identified by witnesses or victims.
Your work will involve:
* Compiling and facilitating identification procedures (using specialist software) in line with strict legal standards.
* Working directly with suspects, victims, witnesses, and police colleagues to ensure the process is fair and professional.
* Using specialist video equipment to create identification parades and maintain accurate records.
This is a role where adherence to procedures and integrity really matter – your contribution helps uphold justice and maintain public confidence in policing.
And it’s not a static position: once you have built your expertise, you’ll support the delivery of training, recognise opportunities to strengthen our service offering where needed, and work seamlessly with your Custody peers by contributing and adding value to our wider Custody administration processes.
Please note: The role occasionally requires travel, so you must hold a full UK manual driving licence.
What We’re Looking For

* Strong IT skills and attention to detail
* Ability to work flexibly and occasionally outside normal hours
* Willingness to undertake in‑house training to achieve accreditation
Desirable
* Knowledge of PACE Code D
Previous experience in identification procedures is desirable but not essential – we’ll provide full training for the right candidate.
