We currently have both full and part time permanent roles available opportunities for an experienced midwife to join our existing Maternity A ward team.
You will be an excellent communicator who listens actively to women and their families, working in partnership with them to develop personalised care plans. Your supportive, collaborative approach will help ensure every woman receives a safe, high‑quality and positive experience during her pregnancy journey.
Please note: Appropriate UK NMC Registration is a requirement for this role and international candidates who only holds PRN need not to apply.
Main duties of the job
Maternity A is a high‑risk antenatal ward providing specialist care for around 200 women each month. The ward supports those undergoing induction of labour as well as women admitted with complex obstetric needs during pregnancy. The team delivers enhanced monitoring, individualised care planning, and coordinated multidisciplinary support to ensure safe, evidence‑based care for women with higher‑risk pregnancies.
Maternity A is a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment that requires midwives to work autonomously while contributing effectively to a cohesive multidisciplinary team. The role demands confident, timely clinical decision‑making and the ability to recognise, act on, and escalate concerns promptly to ensure the highest standards of safe, person‑centred care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Maternity A is a growing service provided for women and families throughout pregnancy and during the induction of labour process
Duties to include, but not be limited to:
1. Assist and support the lead midwife in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
2. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
3. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by less experienced staff
4. Ensure a high standard of Midwifery care is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines
5. Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
6. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines
7. Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
8. Promote provision of education and health promotion
9. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
10. Willing to expand clinical role e.g. IV additives, venepuncture and Cannulation, Perineal suturing
11. Awareness of changes within Midwifery practice
12. Able to manage /treat obstetric emergencies in hospital/birth unit and community setting
13. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
14. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
15. Maintains own reflective practice.
16. Demonstrates effective listening skills and communication skills.
17. Confident in teaching and assessing student midwives, midwives and doctors.
Desirable criteria
18. Evidence clinical competence in area of speciality
19. Knowledge of Leadership and management
20. Knowledge of Research and Development

Essential criteria
21. Appropriate NMC Registration
22. NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards, following 18 months commencement in post
23. Evidence of continuing education or development
