Overview
Security Services Group (SSG) is the MOD's Technical Authority for electronic and physical security, providing in‑house expert advice, design, installation and maintenance of systems across the Government. This vacancy is for a Senior SEO Designer within the SSG Security Systems Design Team (SSDT), working 37 hours per week at high‑profile Defence and critical national infrastructure sites.
Responsibilities
* Provide customer interface and represent SSG at high‑level meetings, undertaking complex discussions and negotiations with project managers, client security authorities and stakeholders.
* Line‑manage the dedicated in‑house SSDT Design Project Manager and subcontractors to deliver unique and complex projects during their life cycles.
* Assist SSDT Team Leader and SSG Operations Project Managers from start‑to‑finish of projects, ensuring compliance with standards, delivering designs on time, cost and quality.
* Set and deliver effective system designs and technical specifications in conjunction with operations project managers.
* Report all risks and issues and assist the SSDT Team Leader in presenting recommendations for novel and contentious designs to SSG Higher Management Group.
* Maintain familiarity with SSG products through the Production, Development and Support section, liaising with suppliers and key manufacturers.
* Lead stakeholder engagement, manage relationships at multiple levels of seniority across organisational boundaries.
* Oversee financial management: estimating, job costing, invoicing, budget management and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
* Recognised engineering background, including an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications.
* NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or ONC/OND in Electronic Security Systems (IDS, CCTV, etc.) or equivalent.
* Full UK driving licence.
* HNC/HND in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent (desirable).
* Experience delivering large integrated security projects.
* Membership of the Engineering Council and/or Security Institute (desirable).
* Proficiency in AutoCAD (ACAD) and in writing detailed Technical Specifications and Drawings.

Working Conditions
* Work at SSG customer sites across the UK and overseas, with frequent detached duty and overnight stays.
* Required to work 37 hours per week.
* Travel to interviews is not reimbursed.
* Open to UK nationals only.
* Relocation expenses are not offered.
* Probation of six months for external recruits new to the Civil Service.
