This is a key technical and operational role with sole accountability for ATEX compliance at Avonmouth.
You will play a central role in keeping safety‑critical assets compliant, available and fit for purpose, working closely with Operations, Science, Engineering and external contractors to plan, prioritise and deliver work.
The role requires strong leadership across health, safety and DSEAR activities, including inspections, audits, investigations and statutory compliance, as well as hands‑on involvement in contractor control, technical assurance and regional ATEX support.
As the role develops, there will be scope to take on broader people‑management responsibilities and influence how work is delivered across the site and beyond.
What you'll do
* Lead the planning and coordination of ATEX inspections.
* Coordinate remedial works and reactive responses.
* Ensure asset data is captured and DSEAR dossiers are up to date.
* Drive improvements on maintenance schedules and spares strategies.
* Ensure we follow time‑to‑repair requirements.
* Work alongside engineering, capital delivery and asset lifecycle teams.
* Manage contractor projects from concept to completion and provide technical expertise on ATEX equipment.
* Support both OPEX and CAPEX decisions and feed into future budget planning.
What you'll need
* Strong experience in ATEX and DSEAR compliance within an industrial or process environment.
* Previous hands‑on experience as either a Compex 1-4/9&10 or 11 technician.
* Experience working at a (Compex 14) responsible person level in an engineering environment.
* Experience managing contractors and complex safety‑critical works.
* Working knowledge of RAMS, method statements, audits, and inspections (SMSTS or other).
* The ability to manage workflows, reactive works and long‑term planning.
* Experience working with CMMS systems (eg, Dynamics) and asset data.
* Financial awareness, including CAPEX/OPEX and approval processes.
* Strong stakeholder management and cross‑team collaboration skills.
* A confident decision‑maker with the ability to work autonomously.
* The willingness to support out‑of‑hours emergency response when required.
